Raised in Chicago, he completed a BA in theater and an MFA in acting at Roosevelt University's Theatre Conservatory before joining the Windy City Women Improv Troupe. Touring with The Second City in Toronto and London, Ontario, he later spent nearly a decade directing sixteen productions at the Players Workshop, where he coached future Emmy winner Sean Hayes and MADtv star Stephnie Weir.
