After completing his studies at Osaka Designers' College, Asaka joined the studio Madhouse, where early exposure to works such as Phoenix: Yamato Chapter sparked his ambition to direct. He first stepped behind the camera as an episode director on Yawara! and earned his first chief-director credit with the 1993 OVA POPS.
