Peter Jackson announces The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past
A sequel is in the works, 14 years after Frodo's departure, with new flashbacks and an Andy Serkis film underway.
Peter Jackson has confirmed the production of a sequel titled The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past. The project brings together Stephen Colbert, Peter McGee and Philippa Boyens as writers and aims to recapture the spirit of the trilogy while exploring a little-known period. The story is set fourteen years after Frodo's departure to Valinor and includes flashbacks to the Old Forest, Tom Bombadil and the Tertres of the Galgals. In parallel, Andy Serkis continues production of The Hunt For Gollum, which is expected to wrap up by the end of November in New Zealand, focusing on the hunt for Gollum after the loss of the Ring to Bilbo. According to AlloCiné, these two projects revive the world of Middle-earth.
