Netflix acquires worldwide rights to Jack of Spades
Joel Coen's film, starring Josh O'Connor, will hit theaters in fall 2027 before arriving on the platform.
After The Tragedy of Macbeth, Joel Coen returns solo with Jack of Spades, an adaptation of the 1901 novel The Alien: A Story of Middle Age by Frances Frederica Montrésor. The story is set in the 1880s and stars British actor Josh O’Connor. Netflix has purchased the worldwide streaming rights and plans a limited theatrical release in fall 2027, followed by a launch on the streaming service. A festival premiere, likely in Venice, is also being considered. According to Variety, the project is targeting the 2028 Oscars.
