The Last Kingdom charms medieval fans, surpassing Game of Thrones
A British series available on Netflix, recommended by George R. R. Martin.
The Last Kingdom, recommended by George R. R. Martin, plunges into a brutal 9th-10th century where Vikings threaten future England. Created by Stephen Butchard, the series first aired on the BBC before arriving on Netflix from 2015 to 2022. It follows Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon), a Saxon noble captured and raised by a Danish chieftain, torn between his Saxon roots and Viking upbringing. Over the seasons, he takes part in Alfred the Great's dream of unifying Great Britain. On AlloCiné, viewers give it 4.3/5, slightly below Game of Thrones (4.6/5), but praise its faithfulness to Bernard Cornwell's work. (AlloCiné)
