The biopic Flo sparks family controversy
Arthaud's family challenged the film, but the court rejected their request.
The biopic Flo broadcast on France 2 stars Stéphane Caillard as Florence Arthaud. Directed by Géraldine Danon, it tells the incredible saga of the sailor, the first woman to win the Route du Rhum in 1990. From its presentation at the Cannes Film Festival out of competition, Arthaud's family expressed concern about the portrayal of their mother, who died in 2015. According to AlloCiné, the only daughter, Marie Arthaud-Lingois, took the case to court to obtain the script, but the judge rejected the request in April 2023, deeming that no element proved an infringement on her memory. The film was eventually broadcast without further injunction, still sparking debate over creative freedom and privacy rights.
