November 4 at the movies: three films not to miss

From historical dramas to adaptation comedies, Friday's lineup diversifies.

On November 4, cinemas are showing L'Affaire Marie-Claire, Un bon patron and the new film by Jordan Firstman. L'Affaire Marie-Claire revisits the 1972 Bobigny trial, where the young Marie-Claire Chevalier was prosecuted for an illegal abortion. Directors Yvo Muller and Lauriane Escaffre discovered the subject through an Annick Cojean article about the meeting between Gisèle Halimi and doctor Paul Milliez, then delved into the trial archives. Un bon patron is the French adaptation of the Spanish dramedy El buen patrón, championed by Philippe de Chauveron, who spent five years acquiring the rights and writing the screenplay with Guy Laurent. Jordan Firstman's film follows Peter, a New York party organizer, whose life is turned upside down by the unexpected arrival of his 10-year-old son, Arlo, after his first dark work, Rotting in the Sun (2023). according to AlloCiné
