China's first fully AI-generated feature film records a commercial failure
With only $198,000 in revenue, Sanxingdui: Future Past shows the limits of the mainstream audience.
The science-fiction thriller Sanxingdui: Future Past, the first fully AI-generated feature film to be widely released in China, was a flop. Released last week, it has taken in about $198,000 according to the Associated Press. The film enjoyed more than 10,000 screenings on opening day, but ticket sales covered only 12% of its 10 million-yuan budget (about $1.5 million). Jiang Defu, CEO of Bona Film Group, told Yuli that the project remains an important experiment, AFP reported.
