Netflix wins the bidding war for dramedy series AWOL

Netflix won a fiercely contested bidding war for AWOL, a new dramedy by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein via GoldDay Productions. The still secret project already carries a military title - "absent without leave" - hinting at its tone. The series is written by Craig Rowin, known for The Off Weeks and The Big Door Prize on Apple TV+. Daley and Goldstein, veterans of studio comedies, have credits including Horrible Bosses, Spider-Man: Homecoming, Game Night and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Their latest film, Mayday, starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, premiered on Apple TV+ in September 2026. Netflix is also developing The Forgotten Realms, a D&D series by Shawn Levy, unrelated to Honor Among Thieves. Source: What’s on Netflix.
