Lawrence Lamont Takes the Helm of Ice Cube's New Last Friday

The film revives the buddy-comedy franchise after 25 years of absence.

Lawrence Lamont, who made a splash with One of Them Days, directs Ice Cube’s new film, Last Friday. Ice Cube, co-creator of the series, wrote the screenplay, produces and stars in it. Alongside Cube, the production includes Bob Teitel and Michael Gruber of CubeVision. The project, the first installment of a New Line buddy-comedy franchise since 2002, will be shot in Southern California as part of the state incentive program, which granted $11.4 million to New Line. Filming is scheduled for 40 days, with 43 cast members and 150 crew. The original saga, Friday, released in 1995 under the direction of F. Gary Gray, spawned the sequels Next Friday (2000) and Friday After Next (2002), as well as an animated series. According to The Hollywood Reporter.
