Clayface has hit theaters, and even though it is far from perfect, it could give new life to the DCU. According to Écran Large, the DCU of James Gunn and Peter Safran is in a rough spot after the mixed reception of Superman in 2025 and the megabomb of Supergirl earlier in the year. The film, directed by James Watkins and led by Tom Rhys Harries, tells the origin story of Clayface, the cult Batman villain, blending body-horror with tragic romance. With a more modest budget, a low-key cast and an R-rated classification in the United States, it stands apart from the two previous Kryptonian blockbusters. Despite its flaws, the result is solid and hints at a more promising future for the DCU, while we await Man of Tomorrow and the arrival of the Dark Knight in The Brave and the Bold.
