Fans of Stranger Things are redoubling their efforts to uncover clues of a possible secret ninth episode of the final season. The ConformityGate theory, which claims that the season 5 finale, "Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up", is merely a Vecna illusion, predicts a broadcast on January 7 2026 at 8 p.m. ET. Supporters rely on alleged continuity errors - Dungeons & Dragons spines reading "XAILE", orange graduation robes reminiscent of prison jumpsuits, the recurring number seven - as well as a Netflix teaser "#WhatNext" dated the same day, which turns out to be the 2026 program presentation. Forbes described the phenomenon as a "surprising massive online mobilization", while Vice reported more than $14 million wagered on the episode's existence. Netflix has not commented, but quietly altered the series' social bios.
