Denis Ménochet and Marion Cotillard didn't exchange words on the set of Karma

For Karma, Guillaume Canet had Marion Cotillard and Denis Ménochet work without ever meeting on set. The two actors even avoided sharing lunches, in order to keep the gaze of their characters, Marc and Jeanne, intact. Denis Ménochet explains that this distance was 'obvious' and that it allowed a shared instinct between the protagonists. The anxiety-driven thriller follows Jeanne, a woman with a troubled past, suspected after the kidnapping of her godson, who takes refuge in a community led by the sectarian patriarch played by Ménochet. The choice of method recalls that of Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster in The Silence of the Lambs. According to AlloCiné, Ménochet has already used rituals to detach from intense roles, such as in Jusqu’à la garde.
