Clayface: a self-contained and tasty DC horror

An obscure adaptation that stands on its own, far from the demands of a shared universe.

The film Clayface by James Watkins proves to be a DC horror that is both good and disgusting, free of franchise constraints. Although it could be the third installment of a supposed "DC Universe", it works as a carefree one-off. After the respectable reboot of Superman and the minimal impact of Supergirl, this little-known adaptation stands out for its body-horror tone and deliberately ugly style. No need to know the character's 86 years of history: the plot stands on its own. The characters and conflicts stay fresh in this genre-blending mix, offering an oddly pleasant entertainment.
