Fincher ends 13-year exclusivity with Netflix
Thriller The New Misadventures of Cliff Booth will hit theaters before arriving on Netflix on December 23.
David Fincher has terminated his exclusivity deal with Netflix after 13 years of collaboration. His next thriller, Les Nouvelles Mésaventures de Cliff Booth, will first be released in theaters in the United States, then will be streamed worldwide on the platform on December 23. The director's departure comes after the platform initially refused to fund the reshoots requested by Fincher, then granted only a few extra days of shooting, despite a budget already close to $200 million. The dispute, mixing artistic and financial stakes, would involve Dan Lin, head of Netflix's film division. This split closes a period that gave House of Cards, Mindhunter, Mank and The Killer.
