The film Digger turned into a commercial disaster from its launch in the United States. First weekend it only grossed $8 million, then the second week word-of-mouth turned against it. By the third weekend the distribution was cut to 786 theaters, i.e. 2,535 copies removed, and the revenue fell to $920,000. According to Screen Wide, Warner Bros. would have spent over $160 million on production. The project, announced in February 2024 while Tom Cruise was still riding the success of Top Gun: Maverick, even prompted Ben Affleck to call the debacle "grave for Hollywood".
