Colin Farrell spent up to four hours each morning in prosthetic makeup to portray the Penguin. The process initially took four hours, then dropped to two hours as filming progressed. The look was conceived by makeup artist Mike Marino, whom the actor described as "a little uncomfortable". In a 2022 interview on The Late Late Show with James Corden, alongside Patrick Stewart, he explained that he could sit for eight hours straight from the morning if needed. The result was so convincing that Jeffrey Wright, who plays Commissioner Jim Gordon in The Batman, did not recognize him at first. He first greeted him as a stranger before exclaiming "Colin?". According to AlloCiné, the The Penguin miniseries on HBO Max will be limited to its eight episodes, with no sequel planned. Despite the series ending, Farrell will appear in a few scenes of The Batman 2.
