The Lion King live-action, 10 million admissions, 2019 record in France

The 2019 remake outdoes the 1994 original and tops the French box office.

The live-action remake of The Lion King sold 10 041 692 tickets in 2019, the biggest success at the French box office that year. Directed by Jon Favreau, it faithfully reproduces the cult animated film and appeals to a broad audience. According to AlloCine, the film is rated 4.1/5 by viewers, based on nearly 30 000 votes. It outruns Frozen II (7.5 M), Avengers: Endgame (6.8 M) and the comedy Qu’est-ce qu’on a encore fait au bon-dieu ? (6.7 M). The success also led to nominations at the Oscars, BAFTA and Golden Globes.
