The film Street Fighter by Kitao Sakurai has been harshly criticized in the United States. The American press called it a genuine disaster, accusing the production of drowning the story under an avalanche of characters and video-game references. The cast, impressive on paper - Noah Centineo as Ken Masters, Jason Momoa as Blanka, Roman Reigns as Akuma, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison and 50 Cent as Balrog - was not enough to save the ship.

"By multiplying so many characters and game references that newcomers struggle desperately to keep up, Street Fighter tries to find the right balance between fan service and accessibility. Result: there is a strong chance that neither audience will be fully satisfied."

According to Screen Wide, the film was torn apart by the overseas press.
