Taika Waititi's Klara and the Sun Criticized Negatively
Critics say the film fails to capture the depth of Ishiguro's novel.
Trailer · Klara and the SunJenna Ortega plays a robot tasked with keeping company to a sick young girl in Klara and the Sun, the new film by Taika Waititi. The June trailer already showed Amy Adams, Natasha Lyonne, Simon Baker and Steve Buscemi, promising a feel-good science-fiction. After the London preview, the response proved disappointing. Some critics called the film “bad”, describing it as a clumsy, empty-hearted sci-fi comedy, far from the beauty of the novel's dystopian tale. According to Screen Wide, the movie fails to convey the depth of the book, limiting itself to talking about the power of love and friendship.
