Mike Flanagan explains the secret society added to Carrie
He relies on a letter from the 1974 novel to expand the series' universe.
Trailer · CarrieMike Flanagan explained why he introduced a secret society around Carrie in the Amazon Prime Video series. He notes that the 1974 novel ends with a letter from an unknown woman mentioning the powers of a four-year-old girl, echoing those of her grandmother. Flanagan expanded this thread, creating a hidden community linked to the X-Men and a mysterious ally. According to Écran Large, he also pointed out that the eight-episode version, longer than Brian De Palma's film, "stitches" over the characters, losing some of the original text's sparkle. The art direction, considered less elegant than in The Haunting of Hill House, Bly Manor or Midnight Mass, serves to set up an expanded universe and a possible sequel.
