Les Misérables 2026, the new French blockbuster

The 2026 version of Les Misérables fits into the line of big-budget adaptations such as The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. The film adopts blockbuster codes: fast pace, action sequences and even touches of thriller. Director Fred Cavayé explained during a screening at Club AlloCiné that he wanted to recapture the tempo of his early action movies, recalling scenes like Jason Bourne with a chase between Valjean and Javert through revolutionary Paris. He also highlights the presence of dark humor around the Thénardier and a romantic depth. According to AlloCiné, Cavayé sees this mix as containing all the ingredients of a great cinema film.
