Ray Gunn, Netflix's animated neo-noir reveals its first reviews
Critics praise its visual inventiveness but note a too familiar storyline.
Trailer · Star WarsNetflix launches Ray Gunn, an animated neo-noir film where detective Raymond Gunn investigates in Metropia among aliens, murderers and the star Venus Nova. The project was born in the 1990s, marking Brad Bird's return behind the camera after more than eight years away. At the BFI presentation, critics highlighted great visual inventiveness and gorgeous colors, even though the urban sets recall Star Wars and The Fifth Element. Film Threat calls it "a flat mash-up of science-fiction and neo-noir clichés, more disappointing than bad", stripping it of visual sparkle and emotional depth. (Écran Large)
