God of War director borrows Avatar's camera for a continuous shot
A virtual camera technology from James Cameron's film shapes the latest games in the saga.
Trailer · AvatarThe Sony Santa Monica studio integrated the virtual camera used for Avatar into the production of its two latest titles God of War. The game director, Bruno Velazquez, explained it at the View Conference in Turin. He described the desire to present the two installments as single continuous shots, without cuts, borrowing cinematic techniques to give the camera a "handheld" look. The teams even brought James Cameron's real camera onto the motion capture stage to film the scenes alongside the actors. This approach illustrates the growing convergence between cinema and video games, according to Velazquez.
