Butterfly Jam, the new film by Kantemir Balagov, arrives in theaters this Wednesday after its opening at the Directors' Fortnight at Cannes. The story follows Pyteh, 16 years old, who splits his time between wrestling mats and his family's Chechen restaurant, on the brink of bankruptcy, in New Jersey. An impulsive decision by his father upends his trajectory, drawing a tale of pride, heritage and masculinity. The film evokes the atmosphere of Scorsese and Cassavetes cinema. According to AlloCiné, the cast brings together Barry Keoghan (The Batman), Riley Keough (American Honey) and Harry Melling (Harry Potter). Balagov, already noted for Tesnota and Une grande fille, reaches a new milestone with this third feature.
