Zhang Yimou reveals progress on The Three-Body Problem adaptation at Busan
The Chinese director presented the project at the opening ceremony of the Busan Festival.
On the stage of the Busan Cinema Center, Zhang Yimou announced that his adaptation of Liu Cixin's novel, The Three-Body Problem, is progressing after several years of work on the script. As the president of the main competition jury of the festival, he explained that his team analyzed about 400,000 online fan comments to refine the approach. “It is an exceptional work of science fiction, but difficult to shoot,” he said, adding that the years spent polishing the script aim to satisfy the audience. The project, first presented at the Shanghai International Film Festival in 2024, remains distinct from other announced adaptations. (The Hollywood Reporter)
