Lee Child exercises his veto right and blocks a third Jack Reacher
The novelist ended the sequels despite the success of the first two films.
Lee Child explained why Tom Cruise did not return to the role of Jack Reacher after Jack Reacher (2012) and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back (2016). The novelist specifies that a clause in the contract signed in 2005 gave him a veto right after two feature films, a right he exercised. He recalls that the first film enjoyed immense success upon its release in December 2012, propelling eight of his previous novels into the Top 10 of sales. Despite this enthusiasm, he refused a sequel, citing fan dissatisfaction who wanted the hero more muscular and reaffirming that "the book is the culmination". According to AlloCiné, he considers the book the only true ending.
