Netflix launches the miniseries East of Eden
Florence Pugh stars as Cathy Ames while Zoe Kazan directs the classic revisited.
Netflix is offering starting today the miniseries East of Eden, seven episodes inspired by the second part of John Steinbeck's novel. Zoe Kazan, granddaughter of filmmaker Elia Kazan, directs. Florence Pugh takes the central role of Cathy Ames, a character that earned Jo Van Fleet the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in 1956. Mike Faist follows James Dean in playing Charles Trask, and Christopher Abbott plays Adam, the brother. The story relies on flashbacks to cover the first half of the book. The production emphasizes careful cinematography, sumptuous sets and costumes, but the pace remains slow: you have to wait two episodes before the plot really gets going. (AlloCiné)
