Mohammad Rasoulof and O Mipo honored with the Kurosawa Akira Award in Tokyo
The prize, revived in 2022 after 14 years of absence, was awarded by a committee of Yamada Yoji, Lee Sang-il and others.
Mohammad Rasoulof and director O Mipo will receive the Kurosawa Akira Award at the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival. The duo was selected by a committee composed of Yamada Yoji, Lee Sang-il, cinematographer Ashizawa Akiko and TIFF programming head Ichiyama Shozo. The award, revived in 2022 thanks to the support of Capcom Co., Ltd. after a fourteen-year hiatus, had already honored last year Lee and Chloé Zhao. Rasoulof, who fled Iran in 2024 after a sentencing to eight years in prison, won the Golden Bear in Berlin in 2020 for There Is No Evil and the Jury Special Prize at Cannes in 2024 for The Seed of the Sacred Fig, a film also nominated for an Oscar as Best International Feature.
