Sanfic projects Antonio Caro's final film, Monguen, among nine titles in competition
The 22nd edition of the Santiago Film Festival showcases a varied selection, mixing debuts and established directors.
Sanfic, the 22nd Santiago Film Festival, presents nine Chilean feature films in competition for silver awards (best film, director, actor). Four of them are debut films, including Erratics by Thomas Woodroffe, already selected for the New Directors section of the San Sebastián Festival. The programme also includes Monguen, the final documentary by Antonio Caro, who died suddenly a few weeks ago. “We are presenting his film with a particular affection, as a tribute to his work and to keep his perspective alive in this selection,” explains artistic director Carlos Núñez. According to him, the competition reflects a particularly diverse moment in Chilean cinema, where fiction and documentary, new voices and established careers, as well as perspectives outside the traditional production centres, intersect.
