Swann Arlaud plays Henri Marle in the historical drama Notre Salut
The Cannes-awarded film explores Vichy collaboration through the daily life of a civil servant.
Notre Salut puts the viewer at the heart of the machinery of collaboration, away from the big figures, through the daily life of Henri Marre (Swann Arlaud), inspector at the Unemployment Fight Commissariat. Arriving in September 1940, he carries in his suitcase his political treatise Notre Salut, convinced that his engineering methods can lift France. The director, after Rien à foutre, adapts his great-grandfather's correspondence and received the Cannes screenwriting prize. The film, released in theaters on September 30, shows a man in personal bankruptcy who believes he can save the country through managerial efficiency.
