Avengers: Endgame retakes the lead of the US box office

Avengers: Endgame again dominated the North American box office this September weekend, pulling in $26 M from Friday to Sunday. This re-release, padded with additional scenes, marks the best opening for a theatrical return since The Lion King in 3D in 2011 ($30.2 M). Seven years after its initial debut, the film had already amassed $357 M in the United States, a record recently surpassed by Spider-Man: Brand New Day ($360 M). Internationally, the re-issued version added $60 M, bringing the worldwide weekend total to $86 M and the global cumulative to $2.885 B, $39 M shy of the Avatar record. Resident Evil sits in second place with $23.3 M for its second weekend, totalling $103.5 M in the United States and nearly $196.5 M worldwide (AlloCiné).
