Resident Evil opens at the top of the French box office

Resident Evil recorded more than 372,800 admissions in its first week in France, according to Écran Large, on 413 screens - the smallest number of screens in the top 5. This start was enough to claim the number one spot in the weekly chart, dethroning Spider-Man: Brand New Day which had dominated for seven consecutive weeks. The film, a reboot starring Austin Abrams and directed by Zach Cregger after his success Evanouis, follows the flop of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (five years earlier) and the live-action series cancelled by Netflix (four years earlier).

Écran Large notes that this new installment has revitalized the franchise at the domestic box office, setting a new record for the saga, even if it is not a record comparable to the United States. In France, the film is far from a disaster, but also far from another record, with a start almost three times higher than that of the previous Resident Evil.
