Thierry Lhermitte talks about the collective dynamic of Splendid
According to Écran Large, the success of Les Bronzés stems from collective writing and a strong friendship within the Splendid troupe.
Thierry Lhermitte looks back on the writing methods of Splendid, born from four high-school friends - Christian Clavier, Thierry Lhermitte, Gérard Jugnot and Michel Blanc - later joined by Valérie Mairesse (replaced by Josiane Balasko in 1977), Marie-Anne Chazel and Bruno Moynot.
According to Écran Large, the troupe first shone on stage before turning to cinema.
Their first film, Les Bronzés, attracted 2.3 million viewers, and the sequel Les Bronzés font du ski became a cult classic thanks to TV reruns.
In 2006, Les Bronzés 3 gathered more than ten million viewers, one of the biggest scores in the French box office, even though the reception was mixed.
The success, Lhermitte explains, rests as much on the actors as on an entirely collective writing process, with every decision made as a group.
Interviewed by Nagui on La Bande Originale on France Inter, he emphasized that the end of the common writing was due to each member starting to work individually, ending this group dynamic.
