Max Winkler moves from sitcom to the cinematic nightclub
From 'New Girl' to 'Jungleland', indie director Max Winkler finds his place between comedy and drama.
After a decade directing sitcoms like New Girl, Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Fresh Off the Boat, Max Winkler made his feature debut with the dark comedy Flower (2017), which was warmly received by audiences.
He then shot the boxing drama Jungleland, starring Charlie Hunnam and Jack O'Connell. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, earned solid reviews and was seen as a potential commercial hit, even an awards contender.
"I made this film that I thought was my best film," says Winkler. "It was released in the middle of COVID in theaters."
