Screenwriters reveal Professor Murray's role in Unabomber
The two writers explain how they staged Henry Murray’s experiments and young Ted Kaczynski at Harvard.
Screenwriters Sam Chalsen and Nelson Greaves explained how they integrated Harvard experiments and Professor Henry Murray into the film Unabomber.
The feature shows Ted Kaczynski (Jacob Tremblay) at Harvard, subjected to the psychological experiments of Professor Henry Murray (Russell Crowe). The writers discovered that Murray, one of the most respected American psychologists, had a complex personality described as "a little crazy", and a private life far from the noble image. This duality fuels the drama between the professor and the students, at the heart of the story.
Chalsen and Greaves even walked in the footsteps of the young subjects, visiting the Harvard campus, the main set of the film. Their fascination with the "crazy" side of Murray and the intense experiments carried out on young students gave rise to a psychologically unsettling plot, placed at the forefront of Unabomber.
