Hayley Kiyoko dreams of a lesbian Pirates of the Caribbean
At a Beverly Hills roundtable, the singer-director wants a gay-Keira Knightley lesbian pirate film.
Thursday night, during a roundtable titled "Saving Queer Media" at UTA in Beverly Hills, Hayley Kiyoko said she wants to create a lesbian pirate series or film, "Keira Knightley, but gay", very gay and fantastical.
The panel brought together directors Angela Robinson, Adam Shankman and Wash Westmoreland. It was hosted by Marc Malkin of Variety and organized by UTA Proud, with proceeds going to the LGBTQ+ Outfest festival in Los Angeles.
Kiyoko directed her first feature this year, Girls Like Girls, a YA romance inspired by her novel and its eponymous song. She initially sought financing based on the title, but the budget only materialized after the book's success.
