Bill Kramer confirms the Oscars moving to YouTube
The AMPAS CEO wants to broadcast the ceremony on YouTube to reach a global audience.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bill Kramer, chief executive of the Academy, told the Zurich Film Festival Summit that broadcasting Hollywood's biggest night on YouTube "gives the Academy more control to reach movie fans". He added that "not doing it seems almost risky".
In his speech titled "The Theatrical Box Office Resurgence! How to Get Audiences' Attention in the Era of Social Media and Online Platforms?", Kramer was joined by Kane Parsons (Backrooms), Robbie Brenner and Michael Barker, co-president of Sony Pictures Classics. After his remarks, he reaffirmed his intention to move the Oscars, traditionally aired on ABC since 1976, to YouTube, a deal that will allow millions of viewers, translated into thirty languages and free.
