The 74th San Sebastián Festival, bathed in a late summer sun and without the typical Basque rain, takes place under the direction of José Luis Rebordinos. It is his final edition after more than a decade of stabilising the festival, attracting sponsors and strengthening ties with Cannes. Rebordinos has greatly contributed to the growth of the Spanish film and television industry.
During the festival, Spain receives five nominations for the International Emmy Awards. The Spain Film Commission announces that film and television production reached a historic record of 5.68 billion euros in 2025. Ahead of the opening, the Javis win the People's Choice Award at TIFF with La Bola Noire, boosting their visibility in the Oscar race.
