The Academy Museum unveils The Horror Show exhibition
According to Variety, the Academy Museum in Los Angeles opens Saturday with a horror costume and prop retrospective.
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures in Los Angeles launches The Horror Show, a major exhibition of costumes, props, drawings and posters from the most iconic horror films. Among the pieces on display are the original cape worn by Bela Lugosi in Dracula (1931) and Aunt Gladys's pants from Weapons, as well as cult characters such as Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers and Chucky. More recent titles like Sinners, Get Out, Midsommar and The Babadook are also featured.
The exhibition, presented by director Amy Homma, explores subgenres from vampirism to slashers to thrillers. Curator Jessica Niebel explains that horror reflects the anxieties of its era while providing a safe space to confront them. Interactive zones let visitors photograph themselves in a coffin or with Mrs. Bates from Psycho, and guests exit through a room of blood. A softer "Zombies!" area rounds out the experience, while the museum schedules a series of screenings, beginning with Jamie Lee Curtis and John Carpenter for Halloween.
