The Transformers: The Movie extends its run thanks to the hype around the 'Apology Tour'

The 4K re-edition of the film reaches 7th place at the US box office.

To celebrate the 40-year anniversary of the cult animated The Transformers: The Movie, Hasbro and Fathom Entertainment launched a one-week theatrical re-edition starting on September 17, dubbed "Transformers Day". According to The Hollywood Reporter, the operation is part of the year-long anniversary celebration.

The 4K remastered film exceeded expectations: it placed 7th at the domestic box office over the weekend, earning $3.1 million in 1,454 North American theaters, and reached $5 million worldwide by Tuesday.

The marketing, described as an "Apology Tour", references the shocking death of Optimus Prime in the first act and allows fans to pay tribute to Peter Cullen, the voice of Optimus Prime who passed away last month at 85.
