Rolf de Heer chairs the jury of the Tokyo International Film Festival
Australian Rolf de Heer, director of Bad Boy Bubby, leads the jury of the international competition at the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Australian director Rolf de Heer, known for Bad Boy Bubby, Ten Canoes and Charlie’s Country, has been appointed chair of the international competition jury at the 39th Tokyo International Film Festival. An icon of the Tasmanian scene, he has more than forty years of career, mixing drama, black comedy and political engagement. His cult 1993 film Bad Boy Bubby won the Jury Special Prize and the FIPRESCI Prize in Venice, and Ten Canoes won the Un Certain Regard Jury Special Prize at Cannes in 2006.
"For us, participants in the Tokyo International Film Festival, it is a privilege. For me, as a filmmaker, it is even more," de Heer said. He adds that, even though he is directing more and more, he watches fewer films, especially on the big screen. As a juror, he has set himself the task of watching at least fifteen competition films and debating them with other directors.
