Austin Abrams talks about the ending of Resident Evil. He describes the conclusion as “risky and bold”. “I was surprised, but I liked that he took that risk,” he told The Hollywood Reporter.
Abrams followed director Zach Cregger after the original cast of Weapons was lost due to strike related disruptions. He chose to stay with Cregger rather than jump at other attractive opportunities.
The film, which earned Amy Madigan an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, received the best critical reception of the franchise and the biggest opening weekend, with $60 million. Cregger was already known for Barbarian (2022), where he brought Justin Long into the second act by singing along the PCH.
