World War Z 2 confirmed with Brad Pitt and Edward Berger
Brad Pitt reprises Gerry Lane in World War Z 2, now directed by Edward Berger.
During CinemaCon 2026, David Ellison, head of Skydance Media, confirmed that World War Z 2 was back in development. The film will see Brad Pitt return as Gerry Lane and will be directed by German filmmaker Edward Berger, known for West and the hit Conclave.
The first World War Z was released in 2013, with a budget of $190 million excluding marketing and over $540 million in worldwide box office. After Juan Antonio Bayona left, then David Fincher, and the project's cancellation in 2019, the revival became possible thanks to Skydance's acquisition of Paramount in 2025. The sequel, now a priority, continues the zombie blockbuster.
