Backrooms Breaks $400 M at the Global Box Office
The film Backrooms reaches $400.07 M in worldwide earnings in under four months.
After nearly four months of run, Backrooms has grossed $197.5 M in the United States and $202.57 M internationally, for a worldwide total of $400.07 M. Produced on a $10 M budget, the surprise hit makes it A24’s most profitable film and one of the year’s most lucrative.
The same phenomenon was observed with Obsession, directed by young YouTuber Curry Barker, which generated $516 M worldwide on a cost of $750,000. These two low-budget horror hits have overturned the notion that young people don’t go to the cinema.
Viral word-of-mouth and the enthusiasm of Generation Z audiences propelled both films, showing that a young audience can massively support modest productions.
