Avatar 3: 4 Weaknesses Highlighted by Écran Large
According to Écran Large, the latest Avatar installment charms but reveals four major flaws.
The Écran Large team generally liked Avatar: The Seed Bearer, though they gave it a 3.5/5, compared to 5/5 for the first film and 4.5/5 for Avatar: The Way of Water. Opinions among the staff diverge, ranging from "I've seen each film 18 times because it's magnificent" to "it's rubbish", with many nuances.
According to Écran Large, four aspects are problematic. First, James Cameron bet on the new Na’vi group, the "Ash Clan", led by Varang, but the film remains superficial about their motivations. Next, the character Dr. Ian Garvin, presented as a very nice human, appears only to serve the plot before disappearing. Finally, the attempt to move beyond the "all humans are evil, all Na’vi are good" trope, cited in an Empire interview in January 2025, is judged quickly abandoned, leaving the treatment of these themes half-baked.
