Born the sixth of eleven children in Richmond, Illinois, Tom Amandes began performing with his siblings and in school productions before graduating from Crystal Lake Central High School in 1977. He earned a degree from the Goodman School of Drama at DePaul University in 1981 and subsequently apprenticed on the Chicago stage, laying the foundation for a versatile acting career.
