Raised in San Juan as the youngest of four, Sánchez left a marketing program at the University of Puerto Rico and, at eighteen, moved to New York to study dance, acting and singing before returning home to debut in Captain Ron (1992). Early fame came as a dancer and co-host of Qué Vacilón, and she captured Miss Puerto Rico Petite (1993) and Miss American Petite (1994) titles.
