Born in Seville to actors Rafael Bardem and Matilde Muñoz Sampedro, Pilar Bardem grew up in Barcelona and Madrid, toured theatres from age 13 and debuted onstage at 18 in a production of Mourning Becomes Electra. After abandoning medical studies in her third year, she worked as a model for brands such as Loewe and Balenciaga before making her film debut in Life Goes On (1965).
