Born in Madrid to actress Geraldine Chaplin and Chilean cinematographer Patricio Castilla, she spent her childhood across Spain, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Cuba. A drama scholarship took her to Gordonstoun, where she performed in productions including a Fringe role as Bottom, and she later graduated from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London in 2007.
